Job Location: Saint Thomas Medical Group - Pulmonary/Ascension St. Thomas Hospital - West, Medical ICU
Job Hours: Full-time, Night Shift (7PM – 7AM)
Job Summary:
- In collaboration with the supervising physician and his/her partners provides acute/critical healthcare services to Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) patients and acutely decompensating patients within the inpatient hospital setting as the leader of the Rapid Response Team (RRT) and Code Team.
- Services include ordering and interpretation of labs, radiographic studies, or other testing for diagnostic purposes; interviews and physical examination of patients; and formulation of treatment plans.
- Provides and delegates critical care services within the scope of practice as delegated by the Tennessee State Board of Nursing and state approved pharmacologic prescribing privileges to patients requiring crisis intervention in accordance with established policies and procedures of the healthcare organization, as well as with appropriate clinical judgement.
Responsibilities:
- Obtains patient history and performs physical assessment via observation, interview, and examination
- Orders and interprets laboratory data, diagnostic testing, and radiographic studies
- Provides direct treatment and management of health conditions via prescriptive and state authority
- Implements and monitors the patient's plan of care
- Collaborates with supervising physician, attending physician(s), or his/her representative and consultants regarding the patient’s plan of care.
- Collaborates with multidisciplinary team to include pharmacy, respiratory therapy, physical/occupational therapy, dietician, wound care, and other adjunctive staff who provide care to patients
- Counsels and educates patients and their family members/caregivers concerning current medical condition(s), diagnostics, and treatment plans/options
- Documents delivery of healthcare as required by campus of employment
- Lead the rapid response team (RRT) in responding to and treating clinically decompensating patients with the inpatient setting of the hospital campus.
- Monitors, records, and communicates a patient’s condition to appropriate provider (including other consultants) during crisis intervention and collaborates with patient's current healthcare team members to provide critical care expertise for early intervention and stabilization to prevent cardiopulmonary arrest.
- A first responder and leader of the code team
- Maintains professional registered nurse and advanced practice register nurse licensure as required by the state of employment, national certification in nurse practitioner specialty, and other certifications as required by the campus of employment

- Tennessee Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Licensures (Required)
- National Certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or an Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (Required/Testing Planned)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (Required)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification (Required)
Experience:
-
Intensive Care Unit experience as a Registered Nurse or Nurse Practitioner preferred
