Overview
Sandra will review the four pillars of comprehensive obesity treatment: nutrition, physical activity, behavior modifcation and pharmacotherapy. She will cover eligibility criteria for FDA-approved anti-obesity medications , availability, safety and efficacy, barriers to prescribing and provide detailed prescribing information.

I am a nationally recognized expert in obesity medicine and have specialized in obesity treatment since 2005. I own Integrative Medical Weight Management, in Seattle, Washington and hold the Certificate of Advanced Education in Obesity Medicine from the Obesity Medicine Association. I serve as a trustee for the Obesity Medicine Association and the Washington Obesity Society. In 2022 I was named the Clinician of the Year by the Obesity Medicine Association. I speak on the topic of obesity at international, national, state, and local conferences and webinars and am involved in projects and initiatives that educate clinicians about obesity treatment and advocate for access to care. I am the the author of “A Clinician’s Guide to Discussing Obesity with Patients” published by Springer Nature Switzerland. I am an Associate Editor of Obesity Pillars, the journal of the Obesity Medicine Association, and am a co-author of several Clinical Practice Statements published in that journal. I am a contributing author of the OMA Obesity Algorithm. I have dedicated myself to educating others about the complexities of obesity. Through clinical practice, speaking, writing, mentoring, and advocacy, she empowers clinicians to address obesity with knowledge and compassion.
