The online course is intended for nurses at any level who want to learn more about NINR's many programs which support research and research training. The course can be bookmarked for ease of completion.
Online Dermatology Triage Curriculum
West Portal Software Corporation, in collaboration with dermatologists at University of California San Francisco, has developed a unique online dermatology curriculum to help primary care providers more proficiently triage skin lesions. West Portal Software invites 40 participants in a pilot test of the program There is no charge for participation. Participants are entitled to a free copy of the Palm-based eDerm/pda program for their use. To enroll in the pilot you must:
Have access to a computer with an Internet connection. Because this program uses hundreds of lesion images, broadband connections are best. Dialup connections will be very slow. Your Internet browser must be Microsoft Explorer 5.0 or higher. Have access to a Palm OS-based PDA (any PalmPilot or HandSpring device will work).
The online dermatology program consists of the following components
- Pretest—You will diagnose and triage 15 cases (1/2 hour).
- Dermatology lecture—You will view instructional material and 85 skin lesions (1 hour).
- Practical tutorial—You will practice recognizing key skin lesion characteristics (1 hour).
- Download decision support program to your PDA (5minutes).
- Posttest—You will use the PDA program to diagnose and triage 15 new cases (1 hour).
- Individualized Feedback—You will view your Pretest and Posttest scores and compare your PDA chart notes with the correct notes for each lesion (5-15 minutes).
- Exit survey—Give us your feedback about the program (5 minutes)
You can stop working on the program at any time, and start again where you left off. If you do not think you can commit to finishing the entire program, please do not enroll. Please try to complete the curriculum with 7 days of starting. To enroll, please email kjmaffei@westportal.com and request a User ID and password.
